# Installing Maps & Interiors

Learn how to install your FiveM maps correctly and avoid the most common setup mistakes.

Installing a map on your FiveM server is simple when the files are placed correctly and the resource is started in the right order. This guide shows the full process from download to in-game testing.

### ❓ How do I install a map?

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Download your purchased map

Go to the [CFX Asset Portal](https://portal.cfx.re/assets/granted-assets).

Find your purchased map and click **Download**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Upload the files to your server

Move the downloaded `.zip` file to your server's resources folder.

If you use categories, place it inside a folder such as `[maps]`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Extract the map files

Extract the `.zip` file on your server.

Make sure the map files stay inside their own resource folder.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Start the resource

Open your `server.cfg`.

Add `ensure your-map-folder-name` using the exact resource folder name.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Restart and test in-game

Restart your server.

Join the server and check the map area to confirm everything loads correctly.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### ❓ Example resource structure

Your map should usually look like this after extraction:

```txt
resources/
└── [maps]/
    └── your-map-folder/
```

The folder you start in `server.cfg` must match the resource folder name exactly.

### ❓ Does this map need extra dependencies?

Most maps do **not** need extra dependencies.

If a map requires anything else, that will be clearly mentioned in its product page or documentation.

{% hint style="info" %}
If no extra dependency is listed, you only need to install the map resource and start it in `server.cfg`.
{% endhint %}

### ❓ Important checks before going live

Before using the map on your main server, make sure you:

* keep a backup of your server files
* test the map on a clean server when possible
* confirm the resource name in `server.cfg` is correct
* avoid installing multiple maps for the same location

### ❓ What if the map does not work?

If the map does not load correctly, check these points first:

* confirm the files were extracted correctly
* confirm the resource folder is inside `resources`
* confirm `ensure your-map-folder-name` is correct
* check your server console for loading errors
* test for map conflicts with other resources

If the issue is related to map overlap or compatibility, check the [Conflicts](/brunx-mods-docs/help-support/resolving-map-conflicts.md) page.
